About Us

Our Beginnings

Born of California’s early suffrage victories—women won the vote here in 1911 and nationally in 1920—the California Federation of Republican Women officially organized in January 1925.  Under the leadership of Mrs. Florence Collins Porter (Southern Division) and Mrs. Parker Maddux (Northern Division), CFRW grew from that first Los Angeles meeting into three Divisions by 1938.

Growth & National Affiliation

From day one, CFRW’s bylaws set out “to promote a wider knowledge of principles and policies of the Republican Party” and to cooperate with County and State Central committees.  In 1938 we joined the National Federation of Women’s Clubs (renamed National Federation of Republican Women in 1954), and early presidents like Mrs. O. P. Clark led campaigns, seminars and community‐volunteer programs.  Key milestones included our first statewide Spring conference on legislation (1970–71), the Talent Bank to encourage women into office (1972), and establishing a volunteer advocacy program with CFRW’s first lobbyist (1974–76).  In 2020 we reorganized into nine Regions, setting the stage for our centennial year.

Continuing Mission

Today, CFRW members phone-bank, walk precincts, oversee vote-counting and promote election integrity—true to the vision that Women are the powerful force for the 21st Century and the California Federation of Republican Women is helping to lead the way!
